Artist Biography
Lee Edwards is an artist working in Duarte, California. His plein air and studio landscapes in oil paint are increasingly being exhibited in California and winning awards in juried shows, including a Best of Show award in 2009. Art collectors own his paintings throughout the United States. He is an active member of the California Art Club, Oil Painters of America, Mid-Valley Art League, and San Gabriel Fine Arts Association. Born in Los Angeles and educated at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and the Dayton Art Institute in Ohio as well as the University of Southern California, he continues a journey of creative discovery.
Artist Statement
I enjoy the challenge of interpreting my perception of beauty seen from direct observation. My goal is to render light in natural-looking color reflecting a specific moment in time, capturing the season, the time of day and the atmosphere. I believe in a spiritual connection among all life. In recent years I have been fascinated by the sculptural forms of cactus. They have provided a source of unified form and content within their natural environment, bringing a simplicity of shape but with complexity in color and shadow.
